Spraywise and Spraywise Decisions

Why is good application important?

Achieving the best results from your protectant fungicide application relies on full coverage of the plant tissue to prevent fungal pathogens from penetrating the tissue.

Fungal spores are present in the environment at all times and in the right conditions they become active. For example, a primary infection of downy mildew will occur in grapevines if 10:10:24 conditions occur – that is, 10mm of rain at temperatures of 10ºC or higher over a 24 hour period.

Off target deposition, or drift, is a major concern in most agricultural areas today with the presence of sensitive targets (crops, waterways, flora, etc) adjacent to spray areas. The APVMA has introduced restrictions on the application and use of 2,4-D products, with the potential for similar label constraints on other agricultural pesticides to be implemented. This means it is more important than ever for the agricultural industry to demonstrate responsible chemical use practices and reduce the need for more severe restrictions.

How can Spraywise Decisions help?

Developed specifically for Nufarm with the pesticide applicator in mind, Spraywise Decisions is a subscription based online tool to help rural landholders and contractors better plan and match the timing of pesticide application for prevailing local weather conditions.

Spraywise Decisions uses unique technology with:

  • Advanced geo-spatial technology to generate weather parameter estimates for the nearest square kilometre grid cell anywhere across Australia.
  • Definitive accuracy estimates achieved by comparing predicted versus recorded values on an ongoing basis for the nearest of 270 Bureau of Meteorology automated weather stations.
  • Forecast meteograms generated for two to 14 days ahead with predicted wind speed and direction, Delta T, rainfall, temperature and humidity.
  • A Spray Planner report which incorporates frost, wind and inversion risk predictions to plan the best application windows.
  • Updates every twelve hours at three hourly intervals to provide the latest weather data.

Through the use of Spraywise Decisions, applicators are accessing valuable localised planning information which allows for greater efficiency, better management decisions and reduced off-target deposition.
