Lettuce (head varieties only)

Lettuce are affected by many pests and diseases. Downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) is a very destructive fungal disease that has major impact on the Australian lettuce industry.

Downy mildew causes yellow spots on the upper side of leaves and a dense white fungal growth on the underside of leaves, particularly in cool, moist weather. Night temperatures around 10ºC and day temperatures around 20ºC provide the most favourable conditions for spore production and infection. Night temperatures above 17ºC and day temperatures above 21ºC are less favourable. Spores are produced on the infected areas of the leaf during humid, dewy conditions, in the hours between midnight and sunrise. Under cool, moist conditions, spores can survive for several days.

Application timing

Acrobat SC in combination with Penncozeb 750DF (mancozeb) or Polyram DF should be applied as a protectant program for the control downy mildew (Bremia lactucae), Anthracnose (Marssonina panattoniana), Septoria leaf spot (Septoria spp.). Maintain a regular protectant spray program.
